About us...

The Abenaki Nation of Koasek is part of the greater Wabanaki community which was made up of the various people and villages of Koasek, Odanak, Wolinak, Missisquoi, Ossipee, Pennacook, Winnipesaukee, Sokoki, Winooski, Amaseconti, Kennebec, Norridgewock, Penobscot, Pigwacket, Wewenoc, Saco, Passamaquoddy, Maliseet, Mi’kmaq. Our homeland for thousands of years was located in what is now known as the states of Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and the provinces of Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.(Map of Ndakinna Territory)

Today the Abenaki Nation of Koasek works closely with our Wabanaki brethrens and related people to ensure our cultural survival.

Symbolism of the Koasek Band logo:

The logo of the Abenaki Nation of Koasek is made up of three white pine trees (Koas) which represent Koasek, "Place of the White Pines". The three mountains symbolize the White Mountains, Green Mountains and mountains of Maine which play an important role in our culture. The three rivers all touching show our unity within our territory and represent the Connecticut River which splits the Abenaki territory and plays an important role in our culture and lives. The Sun rising behind the mountains symbolizes the Dawn Land and all of the Wabanaki Peoples.

Our Council logo was created by Jacline Martin, a renown Québec artist. The digital version of it was done for us as a gift by the Mashantucket Pequots art department.

(Note: The above logo cannot be reproduced in any way, shape or form without the permission of the artist and the Koasek Traditional Band of the Sovereign Abenaki Nation)
